Informed Austin real estate guidance from Lonny Stern
A home is more than its square footage. It determines how easily you can reach the people, places and experiences that matter to you.
I help clients find homes that work in everyday life—whether that means walking to a favorite restaurant, biking to work, living near reliable transit, reaching a trail without loading the car or simply spending less of each day driving.
As an Austin Realtor with 20+ years of experience and a professional background in urban planning, transportation and economic development, I can help you understand both the property you are considering and the Austin growing around it.
The house matters. So does everything around it.
Online searches can tell you the number of bedrooms, the school district and a property’s Walk Score. They cannot fully explain whether a sidewalk actually reaches your destination, whether crossing the nearest major street feels comfortable, how useful the nearby transit service is or what planned development could change the area.
When we evaluate a home, we can consider:
Walkability and access to everyday destinations
Transit service and future transportation investments
Bicycle and trail connections
Nearby parks, shops, restaurants and services
Zoning and development activity
Condominium and homeowners’ association considerations
The tradeoffs between location, space, price and transportation costs
How the neighborhood may fit your life over time
You do not have to give up your car to benefit from a more connected neighborhood. “Car-lite” can simply mean having more choices—and not needing to drive for every trip.
Real estate experience informed by how cities work
I have been a licensed Austin Realtor since 2006. I earned my Master of Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Austin’s LBJ School and have built a career spanning transportation, urban planning, economic development, community engagement, marketing and property management.
I currently serve on the City of Austin’s Zoning and Platting Commission, where I help evaluate land-use and development matters affecting Austin’s future. That public-service experience complements—but remains separate from—my representation of private real estate clients.
My role as your Realtor is to translate this background into practical guidance: asking better questions, identifying overlooked opportunities and helping you make a decision that works financially and personally.
